Free, co-operative public health

Quality of Life
Hospital University re-imagines the relationship between patients, health workers and the system of care so that patients become producers of health, wellness, and a sustained quality of life, rather than passive consumers of medicine and treatment.

Equality of Life
Hospital University recognises sickness as a symptom of a sick society, where the health and well being of the general population is much less important than a healthy economy. Hospital University is concerned with the recovery of social health, as a general and collective idea, in which the health of each individual is only possible through the health and well-being of society as a whole. Not only a sustained quality of life but also an enduring equality of life.

Everyone is a Patient
All of those involved with Hospital University: users, clients, nurses, doctors, paramedics and other health professional and support staff can regard themselves as patients, concerned not only with their own health but working towards the provision of free co- operative public health.

Power of Knowledge
Hospital University makes the link between health, well-being and the power of knowledge. Hospital University supports patients to create a sustainable and life enhancing system of health and care by engaging in research and enquiry about health and wellness in the context of wider social and political issues. At the same time making connections with other matters of public concern, e.g., housing, welfare and unemployment.

Beating Heart
Despite extensive funded initiatives and government policies aimed at putting patients and the public 'at the heart' of the NHS there remains no cohesive framework that is delivering real and tangible change at a human scale. Our aim is to make connections with local populations: our ‘beating heart’, to develop ideas, concepts and actions by which we can articulate our own language of pain and suffering and how it can be overcome.
